Though we’ve seen videos of the PC version kicking around as far back as E3 in May 2005, we only recently received confirmation that the next installment of this popular shoot-’em-up series would appear on the PlayStation 3. What’s more, it will be a launch title, which means it’s slated for sometime in Spring 2006 — or whenever the PS3 truly hits the market.
Most of the coverage of this game has been for the PC version, but we do know that the developer has been building a PS3 shooter — presumably Unreal Tournament 2007 — since early in 2005. That game was briefly on display at E3 in May.
UT 2007 will run on a new, improved engine and bring back the best parts of the series — from regular deathmatch mode to UT 2004’s vehicle-based Onslaught mode. It will also introduce Conquest mode, which is about controlling actual territory rather than just hitting the right control points at the right time.
