The X-Men Origins Wolverine is a PS3 game that falls under the Action genre and was officially released on the 1st May, 2009 by its publisher, Activision Blizzard. The game is rated as M for Mature content (sexual themes, more intense violence and/or strong language) which means that it is suitable for players who are more than 17 years old by ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board), while the game’s developer is Raven Software.
The X-Men Origins Wolverine PS3 offers hack and slash action game play (third-person action genre) of the main character which is Wolverine with his razor-sharp claws trademark that can do a lot of damage to all of his enemies similar to the movie of the same name. The game provides variety of standard and special moves with deeper game play along with a story line centered on its movie release, thus enables player to play out some of the key scenes from the film. The story is also being expand through flash backs and flash forwards, meaning that you spend more time in the Weapon X facility, or in the jungles of Africa, in and around the casino and on the Island exactly like in the movie. Hugh Jackman, who is the star of the movie helps provide the voice of the Wolverine character in this PS3 game.

The X-Men Origins Wolverine is a one player action-adventure game that started of with you playing the role of the mutant Wolverine (Logan) was doing all sorts of disturbing missions with his commanding officer Stryker and Sabertooth, up until he decided to break off from the group, to accomplish his one-man mission for revenge. His missions will takes you within a journey through the jungles of Africa, the hidden Weapon X base at Alkali Lake, the interior (and exterior) of a massive casino, and other locations. Through out the journey Wolverine’s tragic past will also be discovered. Player have to fight groups of increasingly aggressive and dangerous enemies (which include human, mutant, and robotic), solving environmental puzzles, as well as fighting several guest villains from the Marvel universe such as the Blob and Gambit, Sabretooth, Deadpool or Mach 1 Sentinel (a full-sized 250-foot tall mutant), using Wolverine’s razor-sharp adamantium claws which has an indestructible ability to slice through practically anything throughout the game, lightning-quick combat skills, in-depth combo attacks, and an array of brutal finishing moves. He also has mutant regenerative power that heals him in real time whenever he is injured or hurt. His health bar will be filled automatically after a few seconds of not taking any more damage from his opponent. Wolverine can survive being hit by bullets, swords, flames, explosions, and lasers, but he will come to instant death when ever he falls into predetermined no-go zones. Wolverine will gain experience after killing his enemies where the experience will increase his health bar and unlocks slots for more abilities called Mutagens that can be found scattered glowing around the levels. These abilities can be chosen to reduce the amount of damage you receive, increase the amount of damage you do or increase rage. You can also trigger the feral instincts that can point out hidden ledges and vines for you to climb or objects that can be moved and which directions to take.
He also has four different fury attacks known as super moves that requires player to build up the rage meter before attacking the enemy. These four attacks can be upgraded through out the game as Wolverine gains experience, giving the game a very basic character-customization element. Wolverine’s trademark, the Lunge attack allows player to fly a short distance to kill of an enemy or perform stunts. Variations of moves are required to defeat different kind of enemies. In addition, the game’s other highlights are a number of gruesome fighting ways to ward off enemies such as throwing the enemies near any located floor or wall spike and automatically impale them. He also can do normal attacks which results in arms, legs, and heads flying all over the place. Besides that, Wolverine’s has various finishing moves like stabbing an opponent in the side of the head with one set of claws before decapitating them with the other; rip off his foe’s arm and beat him to death with it; tear his opponent in half; use the spinning blades of a helicopter to do more damage to an enemy’s head; and other violent blood-soaked scene. The game does not offer multiplayer or online function, however player can collect action figures within the game to enter bonus levels where different Wolverine costumes from the different generations of comics can be worn when playing in the main game such as the classic yellow and blue, yellow and brown, or the X-Force costumes.
