Review
It is said that the enhancement of the Franchise Mode enables the game to be just like a real GM for example, running each aspect of an NFL franchise like drafting the players, signing free agents and managing the salary. It also does include a new presentation element in the form of a show hosted by the NFL Network’s Fran Charles and Alex Flanagan called The Extra Point. The purpose of this is to use it to watch the recap and halftime show that goes over the basic stats of a specific game or the results of the previous week with some very light commentary that doesn’t offer that much insight. On the other hand, the show too reveals the franchise mode’s major potential deficiencies. As usual at the end of every week, the Extra Point gives out the Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week award depending on the players’ position and performance. It is also said the stats as well is made to reflect full quarters but there simply isn’t as much time to rack up as many yards, completions, sacks or touchdowns as the stats actually suggest. Other feature of this Franchise Mode shows the player’s progression at the end of every season. It also shows the player’s overall rating changes based on a number of factors including overall performance, potential and age but even this seems a little incompatible.
Playing it online or offline, the Madden NFL 10’s game is equally the same in either situation. The Pro-Tak system is a new animation technology that provides an unparalleled control over the outcome of the every game as it doesn’t end until the whistle is blown. This feature also drag defenders towards the first down marker up to 9 man gang tackles, fighting at the bottom of the pile for a fumble and evading the rush with all new quarterback evasion actions. It even makes it easy to avoid solo tackle and it features a blocking system that allows the quarterback to be in control and gives the defensive line to be more in charge of the rush but too many breakaway plays take the form of a poor downfield blocking. New TV broadcast-style presentations and cinematic cameras bring a lot of anticipation and concentration of the NFL to your living room, all this help to give the game a more TV broadcast feel.
As it is said, this Madden NFL 10 is the most customizable version of Madden NFL till now. Having a bunch of options to adjust the game the way you like whether it’s the revamped play calling system and menu or the online matches, streamlined presentation and more but despite all the tweaking mistakes that could have made the game better, it still catches the authenticity and emotion of the NFL like never before.
“Year over year Madden catches flak for recycling previous content into a repackaged roster update. Madden NFL 10 makes a concerted effort to change that perception with a suite of changes but don’t freak out: this is still the same Madden you’ve come to adore. However, there’s a noticeable focus on keeping you actively involved in the game and it’s an effort that succeeds in spades.” (Gamepro, 2009)
