Quantum Theory

Quantum Theory - 1
Quantum Theory or Quantum is an exclusive PlayStation 3 video game that is developed by Team Tachyon and published by Tecmo. It is designed by Kohei Shibata, and uses the DualShock 3 and SIXAXIS as input methods. The game is scheduled for release on March 31 2010 under the genre of third-person shooter games. Quantum Theory features a cover system that is very much similar to Kill Switch, Gears of War and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, with the exception that the tower which the heroes must fight through is “living” and thus, constantly adding and taking away ideal cover locations. The game takes place in an organic fantasy world, in which it centers around two characters consisting of Syd, a buff fighter and a more agile female, Fillena who must fight through a “living” tower.
Reviews
Quantum Theory is a third person shooter that bears more than a striking resemblance to Microsoft and Epic’s over-the-shoulder alien shooter with the only difference that Quantum Theory is PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game is a combination between sci-fi and fantasy that is set mostly inside a sinister tower after an apocalypse has turned the world into a wasteland in which the hero, Syd, has come to destroy this tower and the very Locust-like monsters within. He meets his female counterpart, Fillena early in the game and although they don’t get along at first, they find that they will son have to work together and use various team-up attacks in order to fend off the bad guys. However, the campaign is a single-player experience which does not contain any Resident Evil 5-ish co-op play. Alternatively, there is a team-based multiplayer mode outside the campaign but players will still be playing through the story alone. The tower which Syd has to fight has a literal twit to it, in the sense that the environments will mutate and move from time to time, creating new obstacles for Syd to deal with. One such example is in one of the stages where just as soon as Syd and Fillena pop off a few creeps, the landscape churns up a bridge that provides access to the upper level of the room. However, the bridge snaps off and spun around again as players made their way up it, during when it is very likely to fall off the moving platform to your death, sending you back to the last checkpoint. Other than that, there are also some old school hardcore platforming challenges such as when the bridge spun around and revealed a window which Syd was supposed to jump through. In another level, the importance of using your team-up attacks with Fillena is further conveyed such as when encountering a boss that cannot be defeated by regular gun fire alone. However, when Fillena is tossed at him as bait for him to grab, a weak spot on his hand will be revealed for players to shoot at. In terms of the weapon, they are of a pretty standard third person shooter fare, including pistol, machine gun, shot gun, bazoola and sniper rifle which requires you to pull the L2 button to zoom. The amount of zoom is determined by how hard you pull. In terms of graphics, Quantum Theory is very similar to Gears of Wars, as from behind, Syd and his tree trunk arms look a lot like Marcus Fenix, and even the blood spray of his body looks the same. However, there is a difference when the fallen enemies explode in a spray of snot instead of remaining for you to kick around and point out flaws with the physics engine.

“While it’s easy to say that Quantum Theory borrows many of the elements that make the Gears of War games so popular, it’s clear that Tecmo is trying to create Quantum’s own identity through level design, cooperative attacks, and a look that seemingly merges Japanese visual design with Western visual design. We’ll have more on Quantum Theory before its release in 2010.” (GameSpot, 2009)
